ABOUT ME
For Individuals: I work mostly with adults but am also able to see a limited number of **adolescents in therapy on a 1:1 basis. I can help with a range of mental well-being issues; through Stress & Adjustment, Anxiety Disorders, Depression and Post Traumatic Stress. I can also teach you stress management and mindfulness, meditation and relaxation techniques.
** unfortunately I currently have no availability for adolescents, however my colleague, Gill Kitchen a Psychotherapist specialising in young people aged 6 - 18 may be able to help and also works from my office in Colchester. Gill has experience working with trauma and abuse, has extra training in autism and in Art and Play Therapy and is also able to help with anxiety, depression, stress, bullying, confidence and self-esteem. You can get in touch with Gill here For Therapists & Consulting Professionals: I have a room available for you to hire in Colchester on a sessional basis. I have training and experience as a Clinical Supervisor and have trained as a Supervisor in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy with the Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre. For Organisations: I am pleased to discuss workshops and training with employers and services offering support to others. MY AIM AS A THERAPIST
My aim is to work with you to identify clear goals and to make positive change; to help you feel safe to talk about and explore your experiences, to help you make sense of it and for us to work together to find a way forward, to find hope, to build confidence, and to help you develop the tools you need to move forward.
Therapy is not a passive experience; you will need to commit something of yourself to the process and whilst I may have some useful well-being tools I can teach you to use, I cannot tell you what you must do. But I believe that by combining the knowledge you have about yourself with the knowledge and skills I have as a therapist, that we can use what we discover and understand, to empower you to move through distress and beyond. Specialising in Psychological Trauma, Depression, Anxiety and Stress related issues, I offer a professional psychotherapy service, with an individualised approach. I use an integrative approach to therapy, working collaboratively to explore and understand your problems and facilitate the process which best meets your needs. Everyone's journey is different and so the "same hat doesn't fit everyone". However I believe anyone can find the "right tools" for them. Whether it's Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Schema work, Solution Focussed Therapy, Compassion or Mindfulness or an evolving combination, my aim is to bring a sense of hope and a belief in your ability to adapt, to make change, to make a difference in your life and to live the best life you can. |

FURTHER BACKGROUND
Before moving in to private practice, my experience has included working in acute mental health services, with more enduring mental health problems and in community based mental health and have an understanding of common medication prescribed. I have worked in the NHS and for the MOD mental health services. I have also in the past volunteered my time to the CRUSE bereavement counselling organisation. However I have spent over 20 years working with service personnel and am a specialist in psychological trauma particularly accident and combat trauma. I continue to work with veterans and the emergency services.
I have recently also become owner/director at Silver Street Clinic in Maldon, where I have also worked from as a therapist since coming in to private practice.
I consider the continuing development of my therapy practice paramount to ensuring I am current and practicing in accordance with the guidelines of my professional bodies. I maintain my NMC registration and am a member of the BABCP and EMDR Association UK & NI. I am DBS checked. I arrange for my own regular professional supervision in order to maintain competency in specialist practice.
In my spare time I am also involved in voluntary youth work and believe in promoting positive attitudes toward mental health from a young age.
I have a few other skills and interests up my sleeve which I don't use within my psychotherapy practice but that you might just be interested to know! I trained in acupuncture for nurses, have trained in holistic massage, indian head massage and Reiki and I have a passionate interest in Essential Oils which I studied for 2 years, so love to make my own blends and products. I also, when I have time, help a local rescue with emergency foster of dogs (mostly spaniels!) and have two crazy rescues I adopted! And am qualified to run tomahawk throwing!!

Other Therapists
I have a close working relationship with other colleagues in the field of mental health who may be able to offer alternative specialties. If for what ever reason I am unable to assist with your particular needs, I may be able to refer you to other appropriately qualified and highly recommended therapists.
